The city of Waterbury became home to many Irish immigrants. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Waterbury was a bustling city with plenty of opportunity for immigrants of all ethnicities. Known as 'The Brass City' for its' manufacturing of brass and other metals, the Waterbury area is also well known for decades of clock and watch production.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the American public from the French. The official dedication ceremony was held on October 1886 and for millions of immigrants, this statue served as the ultimate symbol of American freedom and opportunity.
